Nighttime temperatures are generally cooler by 5-7 degrees. In the more northerly islands, winter temperatures are approximately 5 degrees lower than the southern islands. Sea surface temperatures vary between 74 degrees in February and 84 degrees in August.

When is the rainy season?
the Islands of the Bahamas experience rain year-round; however, the months of May through October constitute the rainy season. The northern islands normally receive twice as much rain as the southern islands with heavy squalls or thundershowers which clear quickly.

Should I avoid visiting the Islands during the hurricane season?
The months of June to November constitute the hurricane season. The weather does influence travel decisions and often, inaccurate reporting of information on hurricanes results in needless cancellations by U.S. travellers. Many Bahamas hoteliers have instituted a Hurricane Hotel Policy for vacationers which states that visitors who cancel a Bahamas vacation during a hurricane will receive an immediate refund with no penalties. If caught on-island during a hurricane, they would be extended the lowest possible rate and all possible courtesies.

Are the Bahamas part of the United States?
No. the Islands of the Bahamas is an independent country and a member of the British Commonwealth of Nations.

Why is the ocean so beautiful in the Bahamas?
the Islands of the Bahamas archipelago has been identified by NASA as having some of the most beautiful waters on earth. The waters are virtually free of pollution, making them among the clearest and most colourful to be found anywhere. The depth of the water, coral heads and sunlight are ultimately responsible for its incandescent colours.

Where are the Bahamas located and is there more than just Nassau?
the Islands of the Bahamas comprise 700 low-lying islands and cays that stretch over 100,000 square miles of the Atlantic Ocean between the southeastern tip of Florida and northern Hispaniola. The northernmost island, Bimini, is just 25 minutes by plane from Florida. Nassau is the capital city, located on the island of New Providence. About 29 of the islands are well-inhabited with the infrastructure to support tourism. Some of these islands are Andros, Abaco, Eleuthera and Harbour Island, Grand Bahama Island, New Providence Island (Nassau/ Paradise Island), Long Island, Cat Island and Bimini.

Is there a bridge connecting all the Islands of the Bahamas?
No. There is no one bridge connecting all the islands. There are, however, several bridges connecting various islands and cays. The Paradise Island Bridge connects New Providence Island (Nassau) to Paradise Island; a smaller bridge connects New Providence Island to Crystal Cay, home of one of Nassau's foremost marine attractions. Additionally, there are bridges in Eleuthera and Exuma. The bridge in Eleuthera joins the Eleuthera mainland to Windemere Island, and in Exuma, there is the Ferry Bridge that joins Little Exuma to the mainland called Great Exuma. Also in Exuma is the Dam Bridge that joins Alexander to Brigantine Cay and continues on to join Brigantine Cay to Barreterra.
